“diamonds”

​

i was born from a land of diamonds

meaning if i have a will, it must last forever

so i’ll brand my art, even my own heart, with their clarity

so that the world sees the picture of who we are better

 

if the world could see perfection from my perspective

they would see black beauty, africa shining in her own resources the west has since collected

i would wear my pride for my lover like my necklace

persecution be damned, loving a woman till i’m breathless

 

no longer in a margin, unafraid to outgrow a box

be more than what my father, mother, or this limited society wants

i’d bless these countries like colonization had never come

like i never lost my language or my true understanding of God

 

i would introduce an inner light that can never be dimmed

reconnect with history, and reclaim every story lost in translation

never the scapegoat, never a chance people could forget

diamonds come from this earth, so we were born for greatness

 

i’d shine a light so bright every unbelieving mind awakens

return to the royalty before our truth was taken

we are as mythical and powerful as my mind is

i’d create something as fabled, yet real as a diamonds
